Acid house appeared in 1985, at the dawn of Chicago house music, thanks to the Roland TB-303 bass synthesiser, which was originally designed as a replacement for bass guitarists. However, it didn’t sound a lot like them, so their production folded, while the remaining units were sold for pennies. Having bought one of those, the pioneers of house music began to randomly turn the controls of the synthesiser and got bass sounds of very different densities.
