Sequential One — Energy. A brief history of André’s band before he became ATB
It’s rare for a musician who became famous overnight not to have had a long history of trial and error behind them. Success is the result of hard work. Only industry plants seem to appear out of nowhere and vanish into thin air. True talent, however, breaks through due to sheer perseverance. Take ATB, for example. Before unexpectedly reaching global fame with the single 9pm at the end of 1999, he had been making music for six years and had even enjoyed some success in his home country. André had been drumming on anything he could get his hands on since childhood and dreamed of having a home studio. In 1992, with the money he’d saved up, he managed to buy a small Commodore Amiga 500 computer, two synthesisers, speakers and a small mixing desk.
Thomas Kukula
“I got my first record deal in 1993. My brother knew someone who knew a producer who was already successful at that time (Thomas Kukula). My demo tape ended up with him, he liked it and we finished the song together in his studio. I invested the advance completely in new equipment, because it was my biggest dream to make music.”
