Here’s a story that might be instructive for young musicians. Many people know Sven van Hees from his R&S Records works of the early 1990s. Belgians remember him from the Dangerous Liaisons radio show of the 1980s, where he played trendy electronic music. Some people know about his house past. But many people have heard of van Hees from his track Tsunami, which was included in hundreds and thousands of lounge compilations. Love for jazz took over and since the mid-1990s Sven has been recording beautiful summer music. And finally, he had enough material for his debut record. Where should he take it? He found a label that suited him, signed a contract and, six months after the album came out, the label declared bankruptcy. “I haven’t heard from them since,” says van Hees.
