Fluke — Risotto. How to mix bass and broken beat at different tempos

“I think what we do tends to sound quite good in a big, sort of big space with quite a few people. And we do definitely put on better shows for a larger crowd,” says Fluke member Mike Tournier. “But the whole thing is that we make a large sound it’s not a small sound—it’s not a minimal techno kind of sound,” the band’s voice, John Fulger, immediately confirms. “It’s a biiig sound, and I think that works well when it’s rolling out across the countryside.” The Risotto album is a living embodiment of the golden era of the UK breakbeat and big beat of the mid-nineties; the same zeitgeist that was reflected in those days by Underworld, Propellerheads, Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Apollo 440, Bentley Rhythm Ace and many others both in the UK and abroad (Junkie XL, Crystal Method).
